About my trajectory
Art, research
and cultural life.
A practice shaped by institutions, artists, words and audiences.
I am Rafael Perpétuo, a curator, researcher, writer and cultural manager based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. My practice brings together art-making, museums, research and the cultural life of the city.
I have coordinated the Museu de Arte da Pampulha and Museu Mineiro, as well as projects at Associação Querubins. My curatorial work includes collaborations with artists such as José Bento and Sebastião Miguel and with collections that bring memory and experimentation into dialogue with the present.
I hold a PhD and a master's degree in Arts from UFMG, a postgraduate qualification in Cultural Management from Itaú Cultural and a degree in Fine Arts from Escola Guignard. My research focuses on the sociology of art, with an interest in how artistic trajectories are constructed, the art market and the institutionalization of art, as well as recognition and the conditions that enable artistic work to continue within the art system.
I am interested in bringing the rigour of research into the experience of encountering an artwork. Thinking together, asking good questions and creating opportunities for art to meet its audiences: that is where the work begins.
