Collections from seven state museums

Exhibition record at Museu Mineiro. Image supplied by Rafael Perpétuo.

Works from the storage collections of seven state museums enter into new relationships in the gallery. Inspired by Kazimir Malevich, the exhibition brings collections into circulation and opens up new readings of the cultural formation of Minas Gerais.

The selection brings together around 58 works by Brazilian and international artists, including paintings, prints and sculptures preserved in the Directorate of Museums’ storage collections. By making visible works outside the permanent displays, the curatorial project sets the collection in motion and highlights its capacity to generate new dialogues.

Highlights include prints by Alfredo Volpi and Fayga Ostrower, the screenprint Vibrações by Dionísio Del Santo, and work by Indigenous artist-teachers associated with the project Cultura Indígena — Um olhar diferenciado. Donations and acquisitions linked to art salons help tell this history of circulation and exchange.

Information from the Minas Gerais State Secretariat for Culture and Tourism and the exhibition’s publicity record.
